DENTAL ASSISTING

Our 25 week Dental Assisting program with a combination of online class, will prepare you in acquiring entry-level positions as Clinical Dental Assistant or Dental Biller/ Front Office Coordinators. Students will learn the basic skills needed to satisfy requirements in starting a career in Dental Assisting. You will learn hands-on techniques, such as exposing dental radiographs- using paralleling and bisecting techniques, developing dental radiographs, infection control, dental instrumentation, taking alginate impressions, making bleaching trays, mixing dental cements, four-handed dentistry, chairside dental assisting procedures and Dental Practice Management Software/ DENTRIX for charting, treatment planning, pre-authorization, dental billing and coding procedures. Furthermore, students will learn career preparation skills thought the span of the course. Additional 240 hours (3months) of Clinical Hands-on Externship is required for each student who takes the class to gain more hands-on experience in a live workplace environment and may be arranged with the Instructor. After completion of all the Dental Board of California RDA state requirements including work experience, you may qualify to take the state examination.

What will I do in this field?

In this field, you will provide patient care, assisting the dentists, prepare the work area for patient treatments and procedures, keep records of dental treatments, schedule patient appointments, Educate patients in proper dental hygiene, sterilize instruments.

What prerequisites are required?

  1. High School Diploma or GED- For foreign high school diploma, must be evaluated for US equivalency
  2. TB Clearance
  3. Hepatitis B Immunization record or Sign a refusal form
  4. CPR Certification approved by the Dental Board of California (BLS- Basic Life Support)
  5. Must be at least 18 years of age to take the course

What skills will student have upon completion of the program?

According to the Bureau Labor or Statistics, (2015), employment of dental assistants is projected to grow 25 percent from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations. Ongoing research linking oral health and general health will likely continue to increase the demand for preventive dental services.
